NTPC aiming for 75,000MW power generation capacity

State run utility NTPC plans to more than double its power generation capacity by 2017 from the current 30,000 MW, diversifying further into renewable and nuclear energy.

Mr R S Sharma at the company's Annual General Meeting said that "The company is poised to have 75,000 MW generation capacities with diverse fuel mix by the year 2017."

He added that hydro, nuclear and renewable energy sources would contribute 12,000 MW of the targeted capacity addition.

Mr Sharma said that NTPC has set a target of setting up hydro power capacity of 9,000 MW, nuclear power capacity of 2000 MW, renewable energy of 1,000, MW by 2017.

NTPC has also set a capital expenditure target of INR 17,700 crore during the current financial year 2009-10.
